GALVAN T-12 (TORQUE) FLY REEL
Date: Jan., 2005
Reviewer: Mark Boname

Galvin Fly reels
Introduction:

Introducing the Galvan Torque Large Arbor reel. Function, unique design, and quality: All the hallmarks of the Galvan tradition are represented in this completely new reel. From the rounded spool and frame rims, to the contoured counter balance, to the uniquely designed cutouts on the spool, frame, and drag knob, to the innovative new drag system, the Torque is clearly a step up in fly reel design. The drag system for the Torque is composed of stainless steel and a state-of-the-art, heat- and wear-resistant thermoplastic unlike anything else on the reel market. It is completely salt water safe, and will continue to perform flawlessly under the harshest conditions from the flats and the blue water to the mountain streams and the coastal rivers.

First Impression:

I ‘d been using Galvan OB series reels on all my trout rods and was so impressed that when I went to Costa Rica in Jan of 2005, I thought I would give the new Galvan Torque a try. I wanted to see how the reel and especially the drag would hold up against sailfish. With nothing else said, the folks at Galvan know how to machine a reel! The drag on this reel is not only incredibly smooth but also what I call accurate. What I mean by accurate is that it has wide range where one click of the drag does not change anything significantly. In other words it really allows you micro manage and you are able to set the drag right where you want it. I landed nine sailfish on this reel without any problems or failures. It is now Oct. of 2005 at the time of this review; and, after inspecting the reel, I’m finding no corrosion or rust on any of the parts.
