Fly Line Review

Cortland 444Tropic Plus Ghost Tip

Reviewer: Captain Dave Beshara

Date: Spring, 2004

Introduction:

Cortland's LazerLine offers you a line for every fishing condition. Each has stiff construction and internal lubricants that reduce friction, and the long belly generates higher line speeds so you get more distance with each cast. Smaller line weights have longer front tapers for accurate, delicate presentations. Larger lines have shorter front tapers for more positive turn-over. The 444 LazerLine/Tropic Plus allows you to quickly load your rod and put your fly in front of saltwater fish. It holds up to demanding saltwater conditions.

On the Water:

The 444 tropic plus ghost tip has been my line of choice in Florida when fishing in 5 to 10' of clear water. It's a great small tarpon line, and gives the advantage of an additional 9' of clear tip; with this characteristic, the angler has the advantage of extra clear tip attached to the leader system when fishing IGFA regulations. The anatomy of the 444 tropic plus ghost tip gives the advantage of quick line pick up and delivery comparable to a full intermediate line but with a floating body and running line section.

The surface coating on the fly line is designed for warm water use and the mono core material has little to no memory. The color of the line is pale yellow, which over time and use will get even lighter.
