Abel Super 10 Large Arbor Fly Reel

Note: Purchased used
Date: June, 2004
Reviewer: Captain Dave Beshara

Introduction:

All Abel reels are precision machined, maintaining exact tolerances from solid blocks of aircraft grade 6061-T aluminum. These reels are carefully anodized and hand polished to achieve an attractive durable surface finish. Only the Abel X-Stream reel is not hand polished. The Abel Super10 drag system is made of high grade cork and impregnated with neat's-foot oil.

First Impression:

In the eary 80's I purchased 3 Abel reels from Abels' distributor in Miami, Fl.The reels were on the market for less than a year and half. The reels were a #4,#3,and a #2 All the reels had solid housings and spools.I have since upgraded the #3 and #2 for the perforated spool and housings. I use the #4 for tarpon fishing in the Key's. Other than my usual spring maintenance, none of my Abel reels have required factory repairs. My Super 10 is now 7 years in use and again with normal yearly maintenance, no factory repairs have been necessary. The quality of machining, anodization and, the overall design are excellent. I own 6 Abel reels and find them all highly functional and dependable.
